Cream of Wheat

The boys are just LOVING Cream of Wheat these days! Must be all the snow, wind and sub-zero weather we've been having lately. One day before Christmas when I was trying to get a Cookie Kitchen order done during crunch time before breakfast, Stephen saw my sprinkles and asked if he could decorate his Cream of Wheat. Why not?! This is the beautiful Christmas tree that he came up with. Isn't it cute?! Since then we've done space shuttles, roller coasters, sunshines, mini golf courses, you name it!

How do you eat your Cream of Wheat? If it's getting a bit boring to you, try decorating it. It's so much more fun that way!

PS It works with oatmeal, too!

We haven't done cream of wheat in a while (because mom doesn't get up before her kids are done eating breakfast, ahem), but this picture made my mouth water!

The recipe I used this week came from P.40 of the Pavkov cookbook.
1 egg, beaten,
4T. Cr. of Wheat,
1/4 tsp. salt.
Mix together. Let stand for about an hour (till liquid absorbs) and by teaspoonful, drop into boiling broth. I remember Grandma Pamer making these, then Mom, and I sure like them when I make them. Yum!
Try them. You might, too.

If I have Cr. of Wheat for breakfast, it's with cranraisins and brown sugar in it. another yum.

I use the same recipe your mom does for cream of wheat. I remember having to eat Cocoa Wheat as a kid. I hated it! And Gram being who she was, we couldn't waste food...so what I refused to eat before school was waiting for me at supper...COLD, before I could have what the rest of the family ate. (Probably why I was so skinny as a kid?)Still don't like it, and I LOVE chocolate...!

we do'nt have cream of wheat at home, but we do have oatmeal and eat it often in the winter (Tony usually makes it). We did your idea that morning with oatmeal... note to other parents of young ones. Supervise how much your kids are dumping on. Wish I would've thought to take a photo, but Susi's was so sugar-laden, even she didn't want to eat it!
