Every trip needs to have some sort of story to go along with it, right? Well, this trip to Paraguay is no exception! The only problem is that I'm not sure what point I should start the story!
Do I start by telling you about my washing machine that died on me JUST before my last load was started on Wednesday before we left for the airport? (Thank God for sisters-in-law that live around the corner and are willing to wash, dry and fold clothes for you!) Do I start by telling you that I think I broke my toe in the afternoon as I was rushing around with the last minute packing and now I am in pain as I've been walking for miles around the airport?
I think I'll just start by telling you that thankfully, we were off to a good start, leaving Toronto on Wednesday night only five minutes behind schedule. The boys did great, and it looked like we were in for a smooth flight. We left at 11:05PM and the boys were thoroughly enjoying all the excitement! They FINALLY settled down and went to sleep around 1:30AM.
About 2:00AM, we were told that the plane was experiencing some control problems and we were turning around to go back to Toronto!! Can you believe that?! So now it's 5:45AM and we're sitting back in the Toronto airport waiting for an 8:30AM flight to Sao Paulo. We would have been almost there by the time we are now leaving! Ugh!!! Who knows what's going to happen from here. We'll most likely miss our connection in Sao Paulo, but they won't make any connection arrangements until the plane actually takes off. This means we're clueless as to what will happen until we finally get there and get off that plane.
So, I guess the story isn't over and you'll just have to come back to read Chapter 2.
Until then, I'll try to add to my 1/2 hour of sleep since Wednesday morning at 5:30AM. I'M TIRED!!!!! Good night ... or good morning. Whatever. Who knows anymore.
To be continued....

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!! That was the last thing I expected to hear - you actually went back to Toronto and now have to try the first leg of the journey all over again... yikes!!! I can't believe that I woke up at 7am in Cambridge, expecting you guys to still be in the air and almost at the first destination, and you are actually all at the Toronto airport again, just about ready to board and start AGAIN! I'm praying for you guys - well, I haven't stopped since yesterday, but know that we're continuting..... Jo and Henry
Yeah, I told the boys that God was blessing us with a free plane ride because He's letting us do it all again and we didn't have to pay for the first flight! We got free juice, a free breakfast, FREE COFFEE, and we got to take those skimpy blankets and pillows with us! WOOHOO! :) Life's always an adventure!
Oh Martha! I'm so sorry. But it will all work out and you obviously have a good attitude. I'm praying for you now as you leave and fly for the day. May the Lord give you the strength you need. We love you! Lilly
Traveling is exhausting. And with 3 little boys- Yes- we are praying for you, as well! You DO seem to have a good attitude- I'm not sure if I would have been so enthusiastic about airplane coffee!
The good thing is that God is in control- of our comings and goings-and our flying through the air!
Sleep when you can!
oh Mar!!! We're praying for you. Hopefully "chapter two" won't be exciting!
If you can get your hands on some Aleve, that worked great when I broke my toe back in CA. Took the pain away so that I could even stand tip-toe and not feel it!
Oh.....My..... Stars!!!!!
Keep all these blog posts... the boys' lifebooks will be so filled with crazy adventures.
At least you have internet/computer access while you are waiting. "Back in our day" we would have been STUCK.
Hoping Chapter 2 is megaboring for you
Katie
I'm so sorry to hear that!! We're praying for you.
I hope your boys are being troopers.
What a trip! What a book to write. When the boys are older, you can tell them again about the really exciting and adventurous trip you took. Love the Free Plane Ride offer you had to take. Too bad they didn't issue you a whole new ticket.
I'll have to adjust my story I've told to some people--that you should be in PY by now.
I'm starting to think it's rare that people leave for Paraguay and get there when scheduled!
Wow Martha! I was litening to the news all day long about a emergency landing at the airport being met by the fire trucks ect. We even talked about it at work....but I never made the connection that it was your flight! I guess those angels we were talking about really were there!
